Social Distance Challenge - Ride to Feed Others
You Ride the Miles - Hiawatha Bicycle Club will Donate to Second Harvest Heartland
The Program Starts April 17th (that’s TODAY!) and Ends May 31st.
For our Hiawatha Bicycling Club members who:
> Love to bicycle
> Want to help those who are suffering economically during the COVID-19 pandemic
> Want to ride their bicycle or indoor trainer to help those in need
The HBC Board has maintained a reserve fund for rainy days, and it won’t get much rainier than this COVID-19 pandemic. Consistent with HBC’s goal of promoting community bicycling and supporting our community, we want YOU to go outside and ride your bicycle (following health department guidelines) or, hop on your indoor trainer and get some miles.
The Hiawatha Bicycling Club (HBC) will donate $.50 per mile rode to Second Harvest Heartland for every mile the Club member rides (up to $2000 maximum). All you have to do is ride your bicycle and tell us the total number of miles you rode outside or inside.
To report your hours rode simply send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org showing the day you rode and the number of miles. For example: “I rode 18 miles on May 1st.” You can put up to one week’s worth of rides in one email.
Taken together, everyone’s solo rides contribute to one big group ride. We encourage you to take photos of your ride and share them so we can celebrate in each other’s accomplishments. If you are worried that your helmet doesn’t cover your current “hairstyle”, just take a picture of the scenery rather than of yourself (although remember, we’re all in this together!). You can post them on our Facebook Group page, or, send them with your email and we will post them for you.
We will frequently update the HBC Home Page https://www.hiawathabike.org/ to show the Club’s collective progress.
If we reach our goal of $2000 before May 31st, keep riding those miles and consider making your own donation directly to Second Harvest Heartland (or any charity of your choice working to help others during the COVID-19 pandemic).
So, go out and ride and let’s help raise money for food! Report your progress via email to email@example.com
