On Saturday, May 22nd, HBC held its Spring Kickoff at Beard's Plaisance, conveniently located next to the Lake Harriet bike path. Over 50 members and guests gathered for the festivities, including a number of new members.

The weather was perfect - sunny and warm, with highs in the low 80s. Donuts, coffee, and bananas greeted us, thanks to Board members Jean Mangan and Shelli Hesselroth. Rita Wilczek and Board member Alan Wichman brought coolers filled with soft drinks and cold water.

The multi-talented Lisa Soldat, ex-officio Board member, sold new club buffs and provided boxes of free jerseys. Board member Hoang Pham even brought along cornhole games handmade by Joyce Pham.

After an hour of munching and reacquainting ourselves with three-dimensional socializing, we gathered for a short welcome from Shelli and a group photo.

Then groups headed off on four unique morning rides led by HBC ride leaders. Rides varied from a relaxing jaunt around the nearby lakes to a not-for-the-fainthearted journey to the western suburbs led by Dave Gepner. Group members regathered for a bring-your-own lunch and were treated to lemon bars and brownies baked by Lisa Soldat.

A good time was had by all, and we hope to host similar gatherings in the future. Plans for a July 4th event are in the works.
