HBC tracks statistics only for official HBC club rides. An official HBC club ride is one that is published in the Spoke n Wheel newsletter or on the HBC e-group and is under the exclusive direction and control of an HBC ride leader. Thus, the HBC ride leader must design and preview the route, make the map (if a mapped ride), give the ride briefing to all riders, check to see whether all riders are capable of riding, and serve as the leader on the ride.

HBC does not track joint rides with other organizations and does not record statistics for those rides. For example, HBC does not track rides like RAGBRAI, CANDISC, Ironman and other non-HBC rides on which our members may ride.

These statistics are the basis for the L'Etoile du Nord and Magic Moccasin awards.
